Since 1976, together with our staff, a three-person elected Board of Directors, partners, supporters and volunteers, we have brought affordable, accessible and quality recreation to Blaine County residents and visitors.

BCRD has proposed a Recreation Levy on the November 4 ballot that will provide a long-term solution to maintain the recreation resources our community depends on, while also allowing us to plan for the future. You can learn more about the levy and how to vote HERE.

As we near the end of October, trails are still in good shape, though as you move further north, areas in the trees and shade might be holding more moisture and you are more likely to find muddy sections. With the forecast calling for precipitation and cold temps this weekend, we might see snow in our valley. It will be important to keep a close eye on temps and conditions as we move into late fall. Watch out for extended muddy sections, if you are leaving footprints or tire marks, the best practice is to turn back and find a better option. Pack extra layers, a headlamp for morning and afternoon adventures, and stay safe while you enjoy the trails!

Sheep-

Sheep are still in the valley, though the last of the herds should be moving out within the next week. The Forest Service is still unable to provide their weekly update. However, below are the projected herd movement for next week, continue to consider these locations and dates as a suggestion of where the sheep will be. Check summertrailink.org for current reported sheep locations and always stay aware of your surroundings.

Wood River Trail- Expect sheep using the WRT/sheep driveway to move south next week.
Croy Users reported sheep in Hidden Valley last week. This time of year, be sure to keep an eye out for herds in the Croy Trailhead area, Rotarun, Hidden Valley, Bullion Connector, Bullion Road, and Colorado Gulch area.

Forest Service reported:

Warm Springs This band moved into the Deer Creek/ Panther Gulch area and could be in there until October 31.
Limekiln This band was in the Limekiln area from Oct. 20-24. They should be moving out of the area now.

Reminders:

Galena Lodge is closed for the summer season and will open for the winter season on December 5^th.

Sawtooth NRA HQ and Stanley Ranger Station are closed for the season.

Seasonal Motorized travel and eBike restrictions are in place on the following trails: Big Peak/East Fork Peak #076, Castle #140, Placer #141, Adam’s Rib #145, Osberg #147, Barr #168, Oregon Gulch #183, & Fox Peak Connector #938.
