Trail Report: Oct. 7, 2025

What a wonderful intro to fall! With the recent storms, most trails should be in all time shape, as our dry trails welcomed the much-needed rain. However, as we get more wet and cool weather, keep your head up for muddy areas and turn back if you do encounter extended muddy sections.

Sheep-

Sheep are still in the valley, though the last of the herds will be moving out towards the end of the month. Currently, Forest Service is unable to provide their weekly update, however they tried to project the sheep herd movement for the rest of the month, consider these locations and dates as a suggestion of where the sheep will be. Continue to check summertrailink.org for current reported sheep locations and always stay aware of your surroundings.

Wood River Trail- Expect sheep on the Wood River Trail

Wednesday, October 8th - Sheep will be moving from Quigley up the Wood River Trail towards the Valley Club for the sheep dog trials.

Sunday, October 12th - Sheep will be using the WRT/sheep driveway to move south after the trailing of the Sheep on Sunday.

Forest Service reports:

· Warm Springs This band was grazing near Rooks Creek and Red Warrior. After the 10^th this band will move into the Deer Creek/ Panther Gulch area and could be in there until October 31.

· Galena Area This band started grazing up Galena Summit from the Sawtooth Valley around October 9^th. They will trail up and over back into the Wood River Valley on the 10^th and 11^th. They will overnight in the Lake Creek area (possible to change due to fire closure) before trailing through Ketchum for the trailing of the sheep festival. From there they will trail out using the sheep driveway/bike path.

· Limekiln A band will be in the Limekiln area from Oct. 20-24

Seasonal Motorized travel and eBike restrictions are in place on the following trails: Big Peak/East Fork Peak #076, Castle #140, Placer #141, Adam’s Rib #145, Osberg #147, Barr #168, Oregon Gulch #183, & Fox Peak Connector #938.
